Joey Leak has a diverse business and real estate practice. He provides effective and comprehensive legal counsel to clients ranging from individuals and startup companies to regional and national firms.

Joey’s corporate practice includes providing general business counsel to entrepreneurs and established companies in all aspects of their business, including entity selection and formation, corporate governance, investor relations, debt and equity financing, commercial contracts and transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. Joey has a particular focus on assisting investment groups, venture capitalists, and private equity firms in establishing investment funds and raising and deploying investment capital, and has represented clients in the private placement of almost $1 billion in securities.

As an extension of his business practice, Joey also assists clients with real estate matters. He has counseled buyers and sellers, landlords and tenants, and contractors and professionals in relation to most aspects of the construction, sale, or lease of commercial and residential properties.

Joey began his career as a trial attorney and has represented clients in a broad range of commercial disputes, including breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, business torts, partnership disputes, real property and construction disputes, securities law violations, general negligence, fraud, and infringement of intellectual property rights. He has litigated for both plaintiffs and defendants, and has tried cases to full verdict in front of judges and juries in both state and federal court. While courtroom advocacy is not the focus of his practice, Joey’s extensive experience in the courtroom has made him highly cognizant of the burden and cost of litigation, as well as the importance of developing business structures and strategies aimed at preventing costly litigation and disputes.
